Teacher Luncheon

We are celebrating Morgan Park High School Teachers and Staff on Wednesday, May 9th.

If you can donate a dessert or some time as a volunteer it would be appreciated. The luncheon is held in the Social Room from 10 am to 2:00 pm.

Morgan Park Recognition Dinner/PTSA Elections

On monday, May 7th the MPHS/PTSA hosts its Annual Recognition Dinner and Election of Officers.

We will also celebrate the election of Janice Temple Robinson to Director of Illinois PTA District 25.
Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Social Room.

PTA Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Morgan Park senior Jennifer Dennis who was awarded a $1000.00 Illinois PTA Scholarship.



Selena Sloan Butler: Founder National Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers

Selena Sloan, a native of Thomasville, Georgia, graduated from Spelman Seminary, now Spelman College, in Atlanta at the age of sixteen. She became an English teacher and married Henry Rutherford Butler. The two moved to Boston, where he studied medicine at Harvard and she studied oratory at Emerson School. After they returned to Atlanta and their son was born, she established the first black Parent-Teacher Association in the country at Yonge Street School and founded similar associations at the state and national levels. After Butler’s death, when black and white PTAs were joined nationally, she was designated a national founder. Throughout her life, she was active in organizations that promoted philanthropic, social, cultural and interracial interests.
